2009 Car Sales Statistics - List of Top Ten Best-Selling Cars in Britain

The Ford Focus, Vauxhall Corsa, and Astra were the best-selling cars in Britain during the first half of 2008. Top selling brand were Ford, Vauxhall, and Volkswagen.

The list of best-selling cars in the Britain during the first half of 2008 showed few surprises with the regulars filling the top four places: Ford Focus as best seller followed by the Vauxhall Corsa, Vauxhall Astra, and Ford Fiesta. The top-selling brands in the United Kingdom (UK) with the largest number of new vehicle registration during the period January to June 2008 were as usual Ford followed by Vauxhall. Volkswagen, Peugeot, and BMW were the top foreign car brands.

The British car market contracted by 1.56% during the first half of 2008 as new car prices increased significantly slower than general consumer inflation. Figures released by the SMMT show 1,247,479 new vehicle registrations for the period January to June 2008 compared to 1,267,299 during the first half of 2007. More disconcerting was the steep 6.1% decline in June 2008 new car sales compared to June 2007.
