2007 statistics of new passenger car registrations in Great Britain
(UK) show few surprises: Ford Focus remained top seller followed by the
Astra, Fiesta, Corsa, and Golf.
The Ford Focus remains Britain’s favorite car followed in the same order
as 2006 by the Vauxhall Astra, Ford Fiesta, and Vauxhall Corsa. The VW Golf
improved its sales to take fifth position followed by new entry Peugeot 207.
The BMW 3-Series improved its position on the list of top ten best
selling cars in Britain from eighth to seventh. The Renault Megane slipped
from fifth to eighth while the Renault Clio dropped from seventh to ninth.
The Vauxhall rounded out the list of top ten best selling cars in the United
Kingdom in 2007.
- Both the Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Zafira dropped off the best sellers'
list.

Best Selling Car Brands in the UK in 2007
The total United Kingdom car market grew by 2.52% to 2,404,007 new car
registrations (2,344,864 in 2006). Ford, Vauxhall, and Volkswagen remained
the top sellers – all three improved the number of cars sold as well as
market share.
Peugeot came in fourth while Renault maintained fifth place despite sales
slipping by over 8%. BMW edged out Toyota for sixth position. Honda
maintained its position as ninth most sold car brand in Britain followed by
Audi, which pushed Citroen down to tenth place.
- Most improved car brand in the UK in 2007 was Corvette. Sales
increased 325% from 12 to 51 cars sold in Britain in 2007.

The Ford Focus easily maintained its traditional position as best
selling car in Great Britain. The Focus has been the top seller in the
UK since its introduction in 1999.

The Vauxhall Astra remained second best selling car in Britain. The
Vauxhall (Opel in most other markets) Astra has been on the top ten
best sellers’ list since its introduction in 1981.

The Ford Fiesta was the third best selling car in the UK in 2007 as
it was in 2006. The Fiesta has been on the top ten list since its
introduction in 1977.

The Vauxhall Corsa was again fourth best selling car in the United
Kingdom. Like the other top four most sold cars in Britain, the
Vauxhall Corsa has been on the top ten list since its introduction to
the UK market (in 1993).

The VW Golf improved one position to become the fifth best selling
car in the UK in 2007. The Volkswagen Golf, the second most sold car
in Europe in 2007, has been on the top ten list in Britain since 1999
but 2007 has been its best placing, and best showing by a German car,
ever.

In its first full year on the market, the Peugeot 207, Europe’s
best selling car in 2007, moved into sixth position. Its predecessor,
the Peugeot 206, featured on the UK’s top ten selling car list from
1999 to 2005.

For the third year running, the BMW 3-Series featured on the top
ten best selling cars’ list in the UK. Seventh is its best position
ever in the UK – it was no 3 in Germany in 2007 – allowing this
“exclusive” luxury model to outsell all ordinary cars bar the
aforementioned six!

The Renault Megane has featured since 1998 on the top ten list of
most sold cars in the UK. However, it slipped from fifth place in 2006
(and fourth in 2005) to eighth in 2007.

| Renault Clio – No 9 Best Selling Car in Britain in 2007

The Renault Clio has been on the top ten list of most sold cars in
the UK since 1992 (missing out only in 1998). It slipped from seventh
in 2006.

The Vauxhall Vectra (Opel Vectra in most other markets) returned to
the top ten list of most sold cars in the UK for the first time since
2000.
